Gas pays for work, including an unsuccessful attempt
Gas measures the work a blockchain performs when it processes a transaction. BNB Chain’s documentation identifies BNB as the native currency for smart-contract execution and describes its Ethereum-compatible contract system.
MetaMask’s explanation makes the key point: processing an unsuccessful transaction still requires computation. A fee can therefore remain even when the requested action fails. MetaMask does not receive that network gas payment.
For a fully reverted swap, the intended exchange does not complete, but the gas already consumed is still charged. The REVERT specification describes this rollback of execution changes. That is why a lower BNB balance does not, by itself, prove you bought MAG7X.
A rejected request is a different case
Declining an ordinary unsigned swap request in your wallet does not submit that swap onchain. A quote error before submission is also different from a mined failure. A pending transaction has not yet reached its final outcome.
Start with the transaction hash, if one exists. The receipt guide explains where to check status and what the completed transaction actually received. Use the explorer’s fee and status fields rather than diagnosing from a changed balance alone.
If approval and the swap were separate transactions, inspect both. A successful approval can have its own gas cost even if the later swap fails.
Keep the network fee separate from trading tax

Before another attempt, read the recorded error and request a fresh quote. Raising a setting without understanding the failure may simply produce another unsuccessful transaction.
